Customizable graphical platform of NEO and comet discoveriesfrom 2020
The decisive factors for determining a discovery are published M.P.E.C.s of new objects and the marked * at position 13 of the observations in the 80-digit format.
This ensures that these are fundamentally new discoveries, but without guarantee which observatory will be assigned a final numbering.
This example shows all NEO and comet discoveries in 2025. The discovery positions of the objects are distributed over the entire celestial hemisphere.
NEO are shown in white, comets in red.
The vertical central green line represents the sidereal time at the time of discovery.
It is thus possible to see whether the objects were discovered to the east or west of the sidereal time.
The horizontal central line separates the northern from the southern hemisphere.
You can select by year or month, or you selectboth all and individual observatories.
By double-clicking on a position in the list view, the corresponding pages of the object from
JPL Horizon and
MPC are called up in your browser.
The discovery positions of the objects can only be successfully displayed after the following preparation:
Update the data via the Statistics/Monthly tab in the main screen and then select the data for an entire year.
